2.8L V6, RWD, Auto. Makes the Safari feel quick.
Surprisingly little rust compared to most S10s of this era.

If you floor it and it doesn’t cut out in the process, maybe .

I enjoy the first get S10s and S15s when they’re clean, but I wouldn’t want a 2.8, definitely not an auto.....even the early 4.3 hardly made an acceptable amount of power. 4 speed auto at least? I don’t know what trans that would be

How close were the head gaskets to blowing?
Or maybe, how many times have they been replaced?

It can go highway speeds and a little quicker, it just takes a hot second to get there. I expected it to be way worse to be honest. It’s a 700R4 transmission iirc.

Did it have power brakes? Last s10 of that vintage I drove did not. Was not a fun discovery.

As far as I know they've never been changed, but I don't know the history behind it (neither does its current owner tbh)

It did! And power steering. Manual everything else though. And no tilt wheel which I could barely slide under.

Oh well that’s not too bad. 700R4 would make sense. I work with a guy who had a 1988 manual 2.8 S10 that he got new, and he only just replaced it last year with a new Colorado.

Talk about an upgrade. Hell, even the 4 pot would smoke a 2.8L S10 probably.

Yeah just a bit. I imagine it would, I think he got the V6 though. I would do the same, I like the High Feature a lot

The high feature V6 has been one of my favorite engines since my mom’s Vue. Smooth and powerful, if a little thirsty.

I’m consistently impressed by it whenever I ride in my ff’s dad’s Traverse. That is not a light car, and it can can still scoot pretty good. Also the latest version in the Camaro sounds incredible

With the 2.8l i am not surprised. That was a gutless wonder on anything with frame weight.

Yeah, the 2.8 is not an impressive motor.

Did he buy it from my dad? From when I was born until my little brother was 2 or so I was carted around in the middle of a bench seat of an S10 just like that - same color same year, I think same motor. Around ‘88 my mom made him get rid of it so we wouldn’t die and we got a vomit green Celbrity.

Eh, it does what it should at a livable pace.

Yeah, definitely.
I love these older S-10's, it’s nice to see one that isn’t rusted to hell. The one I had was a bondo bucket. Every time I shut the tailgate, bits of rust would fall on the ground.

This one definitely has rust, but let's be real, all OG S-Series trucks do. It's definitely on the nice end of the herd. Though when you honk the horn rust falls out of the fender...

Needs a turbo 2.0L LNF motor. Make it happen because I’m wrapped up in my own S-series project that’s never going to be finished.

Haha! That’s kind of awesome in a way. Yeah, they do all have some rust.

Almost bought one of these, but a 4.3 and manual. It was fun to drive, but it definitely generated more noise than acceleration. Can’t imagine an auto 2.8 would be anything faster then glacial.
Don’t care, still love these trucks even if I never have one.
